Details on Snapchat’s New WhatsApp-Inspired Features

Snapchat update: Snap Inc has taken inspiration from Meta’s messaging app, WhatsApp, and rolled out new messaging features to Snapchat. The company today announced two new features — Editable Chats and Emoji Reactions — that will make messaging easier and a bit more interesting on the platform.

Snapchat update: Editable Chats

This feature lets users edit a message share in Snapchat chatroom within five minutes of sending it. It can be used for correcting typos or adding more context to a message. WhatsApp, on the other hand, lets users edit messages within 15 minutes of sending it.

As far as availability is concerned, Snap says that the Editable Chats feature isn’t available to Snapchat users right away. Instead, the company says that Editable Chats will first be available to Snapchat Plus subscribers in the coming days.

How to use: Long press the message that you want to edit > tap the Edit Chat option > make changes to your message > tap Done.

Snapchat update: Emoji Reactions

Another WhatsApp-inspired feature that Snapchat is getting is emoji reactions — a feature that has been available in Meta’s app since 2022. Snap says that earlier users could react to messages using Bitmojis. But now they will be able to react with any emoji in the chat.

How to use: Long press the message > tap the Plus icon > tap the emoji that you want to use.

Beyond these, Snap is also bringing a bunch of other utilitarian features to Snapchat.

More Snapchat features

My AI Reminders
Snap is also helping Snapchat users remember information using its AI Reminders feature. The company said that its My AI Reminders feature is available in direct chats or in conversation with other users. It will start a countdown to the set deadline and remind users of the deadline or any other information.

Map Reactions
This feature will let users send a wave as two users cross each other’s location while commuting or a heart when a friend has safely arrived at a location. The feature is available in Snap Map for all users who have opted in to share their location with their friends.

Custom Bitmoji looks
Lastly, the company is also bringing the ability to design their digital clothing for their Bitmoji. This feature is powered by generative AI, which uses prompts by users to customise digital garments.
